People increasingly ask an AI assistant for a recommendation instead of scrolling through search results. “Who is the best plumber near me?” now gets a written answer with a short list of names. If your business is not on that list, you never get the chance to compete.
Where AI tools get their answers
AI assistants do not have a secret directory. They draw on what is already published about you: your website, your Google Business Profile, your reviews, directory listings and mentions on other sites. If those sources are thin, inconsistent or out of date, the assistant has little to work with.
Make your business easy to understand
- State clearly on your website what you do, where you do it and who you serve.
- Give every service its own page with plain, factual wording.
- Add structured data (schema) so machines can read your name, address, hours and services.
- Keep your business details identical across your site, your profile and your listings.
Give them something worth citing
- Answer common customer questions directly, in a sentence or two, then explain.
- Publish pricing guidance, timelines and what to expect.
- Collect detailed reviews that mention the service and the city.
Build mentions beyond your own site
Assistants trust businesses that other sources talk about. Local news, trade associations, supplier directories and community sponsorships all help.
What nobody can promise
No agency can guarantee that an AI tool will name your business. What you can do is improve every source the tools read. The good news is that this is the same work that improves your normal search rankings, so nothing is wasted.
